Filing to Oslo Stock Exchange
(Oslo, October 25, 2007) Birdstep Technology ASA, the leading provider of secure seamless connectivity and mobility software for laptops, PDA’s and Smartphones ensures that notebook manufacturers and mobile operators can deliver products with global connectivity capabilities that enable Mobile Internet.
Birdstep is delivering and launching EasyConnect, the world’s leading connection manager software. This enables Mobile Internet, for any Mobile Operator, Enterprise or Notebook vendor utilizing the Gobi™ technology developed by Qualcomm. Gobi™, an embedded global mobile Internet technology platform enables mobile Internet to be a feature in mainstream notebook computers.
“Gobi plays a key role in Qualcomm’s goal to make 3G connectivity as ubiquitous as Wi-Fi on notebooks. It is important that this global connectivity is transparent to the end-user with their Gobi enabled notebook. That is why we work with software solution providers, such as Birdstep Technology, to create a seamless end-user experience wherever customer may need to connect," says Beau Beck, Director of Wireless Connectivity at Qualcomm.
Birdstep ensure tight interoperability between Notebooks featuring built-in multi-mode Gobi technology and Birdsteps EasyConnect Connection Manager Platform. This means that Notebooks featuring the Birdstep EasyConnect can take advantage of the high-speed mobile Internet services offered by leading network operators in virtually all parts of the world.
“We are proud to work with Qualcomm. Birdstep continues to build strong relations with leading industry vendors that we believe will result in larger distribution of our technology as well as faster launch of our world leading operator and enterprise products. It helps existing and future Notebook OEM customers to launch connection managers powered by Birdstep Technology as well as Birdstep to launch our full featured world leading EasyConnect and SafeMove products to our operator and enterprise customers.”, says Petri Markkanen, CEO of Birdstep Technology.
The market for embedded 3G cellular modem in notebook computer is, according to ABI Research, set to reach at least 26.8 million by 2011, representing over 53% of all cellular modems sold in 2011.
Enterprise and consumer notebooks supporting Birdstep Mobile Internet enabling solutions are expected to be commercially available in the second quarter of 2008.
